Social messaging and email comparison

Manychat vs ActiveCampaign (2026): pricing, features and which to choose

Decide whether the missing step is answering a social conversation or developing a permission-based relationship over time.

Quick verdict

Our assessment: choose Manychat when Instagram, TikTok or messaging conversations are where people ask for information and need a relevant next step. Shortlist ActiveCampaign for email subscriptions, segmented follow-up and longer customer journeys. They can work together, but buying both is sensible only when a defined handoff needs both capabilities. A straightforward newsletter or appointment workflow may be better served by a narrower email tool or an integrated service-business platform.

We researched official documentation on 31 October 2026 and have not tested these products hands-on. Manychat's current pricing model began on 2 March 2026; availability and migration of older accounts vary by region. This page describes the new model, not the older Free/Pro pricing still quoted elsewhere. Account-date and regional conditions.

Manychat's new plans and actual limits

These are published USD subscription amounts before taxes, extra contacts and channel charges; Manychat says the final price depends on billing country. Annual prices are monthly equivalents paid yearly. A channel allowance is not a promise of unlimited separate brand accounts; confirm the required account arrangement before buying for several businesses.

Sources: Free plan, Essential, Pro, Business and Advanced. Prices checked 31 October 2026; confirm on the vendor's site. Business and Advanced do not include a free trial; larger custom requirements need a discussion with Manychat.

Essential's additional active contacts cost $0.10 each on monthly billing or $0.08 on annual billing. Pro uses $0.05/$0.038; Business $0.025/$0.018. Advanced starts at $0.004/$0.0028, with lower rates possible at greater usage. Annual subscribers still have monthly active-contact allowances. The linked plan articles specify these rates; they are separate from messaging charges.

A hypothetical Essential account with 1,000 active contacts on monthly billing would therefore cost $92 before other charges: $17 plus 750 × $0.10. Pro's $39 includes that volume. This illustrates why the lowest base subscription is not always the lowest bill; compare the full expected workload before choosing a tier.

ActiveCampaign pricing for the email layer

At the 1,000-contact starting band, its contact-based email plans cost Starter $19 monthly or $180 annually, Plus $59 or $588, Pro $99 or $948, and Enterprise $179 or $1,740. Annual monthly equivalents are $15, $49, $79 and $145 respectively. Included seats are one, one, three and five. Sending allowances are 10,000, 10,000, 12,000 and 15,000 emails per month at that contact band. Official USD catalog · Allowances.

Do not equate 1,000 Manychat active contacts with a 1,000-contact email database. Manychat counts monthly interactions through its automation, AI, broadcasts or live chat; inactive stored contacts do not automatically count. ActiveCampaign accounts opened from 3 November 2025 count all stored contacts regardless of list status. One person may also be represented differently across channels until records are matched. Budget for attention, channels and staff

A successful social post can increase active-contact charges without producing sales. Manychat lets users set an overage threshold; after reaching it, automations continue only for contacts already active in that cycle. Decide what visitors should see if a campaign reaches that threshold. Extra inbox seats are published at $25 per seat; confirm the billing interval. The permitted total inbox-seat limits are three total on Pro, five on Business and ten on Advanced. Overage controls · Seat pricing.

WhatsApp template delivery can incur a separate wallet charge based on destination and message category. Regular replies are constrained by the service window; an unlimited automation allowance does not remove that rule. Manychat's current notice also says marketing templates to US recipients are paused, which matters for a US-focused acquisition plan. Check the destination before designing the campaign. Where each product is stronger

Manychat: respond while the question is relevant

A person asking about a product in a social conversation may need a link, a qualifying question or a staff reply now. Our assessment is that Manychat fits that immediate exchange. Design a short route to useful information, then make human help visible. A complicated sequence that prevents someone reaching a person can undermine the purpose of automating the conversation.

ActiveCampaign: continue the relationship deliberately

When someone has subscribed to relevant updates, the next useful message may depend on what they requested, purchased or already received. Our assessment favors ActiveCampaign for maintaining those journeys. Write the intended sequence and exceptions before choosing a tier; a five-action welcome flow and a multi-branch customer program are different requirements.

Using both: make the handoff explicit

Manychat documents a native action that adds an email address to an ActiveCampaign list. It requires a paid ActiveCampaign subscription; its trial cannot complete this integration. Capture the person's preference, identify the right list, and test duplicates and unsubscribe behavior. The documented action is not proof of full bidirectional synchronization or permission to email everyone who comments. Integration scope and requirement.

Which setup fits?

  1. Solo creator receiving Instagram questions: evaluate Manychat Essential against likely active contacts and the number of channels. Pro may make more sense when overages or AI assistance are relevant.
  2. US business building a subscribed B2B audience: start with the email journey in ActiveCampaign. Do not buy WhatsApp automation around restricted US marketing-template delivery.
  3. European shop with social conversations and repeat orders: consider both only if consent and customer data can pass reliably between them. Budget the store integration and staff handoff.
  4. Five-person messaging team: compare inbox seat needs, routing and message volume before selecting Manychat Business. Five account users do not mean five included response seats.

Other routes

Common buying questions

Does Manychat still offer 1,000 contacts free?

The new model provides 25 active contacts monthly. Older accounts can have legacy terms; check the account's actual billing screen and migration notice instead of applying an older review to a new subscription.

Are followers the billable contact count?

No. The new model measures contacts interacting through Manychat during the billing cycle, not the social account's follower total. Cross-channel identity matching can affect how individuals appear in the count.

Will Manychat replace ActiveCampaign?

It may cover a focused messaging workflow, but that does not establish equivalent email segmentation, reporting and automation. Compare the exact journey needed before replacing an existing email system.

Do I need two paid accounts to connect them?

The native integration specifically requires paid ActiveCampaign access. Confirm that the selected Manychat tier includes the required integration and channels. Do not budget a working production connection around two free trials.

What should happen when automation cannot answer?

Offer a clear handoff, name the responsible team and set realistic response expectations. Test what the staff member can see, who owns the conversation and whether automated follow-up pauses when a person takes over.
