Email marketing comparison
Sender vs Moosend (2026): pricing, features and which to choose
Choose around your audience, sending frequency and follow-up workflow—not just the price beside the smallest contact tier.
Quick verdict
Our assessment: choose Sender when a continuing free plan matters, or when you want email and paid SMS in the same system. Shortlist Moosend when you expect frequent email campaigns and prefer a subscription organized around contact count without a monthly campaign-send allowance. Sender's entry paid tier does not automatically provide more capacity than its free plan. If sales ownership or agency operations dominate your requirements, consider a broader CRM/marketing platform before choosing either.

Pricing: match the audience before comparing the price
These are account subscriptions, not per-user prices. A larger subscriber tier costs more even if the plan name stays the same. Do not budget a several-thousand-person mailing list using the 500-contact entry price.

Sender currently labels its annual discount as a Black Friday offer. Its separate first-time-customer, 24-month offer displays $5.40/month Standard and $6/month Professional at 500 subscribers, billed $129.60 and $144 respectively for that term. These are promotional commitments, not established renewal prices. Moosend advertises 20% annual savings but displays rounded whole-dollar monthly equivalents; use the checkout total, not a multiplication of the rounded headline, for an exact annual budget. What changes the actual bill?
Sender's paid send allowances scale with the selected subscriber tier. Its Standard tier removes branding and adds capabilities such as campaign A/B testing, but choosing the smallest paid tier is unsuitable when the existing audience exceeds its contact limit. Upgrading is a feature decision as well as a capacity decision. Standard features · tier calculator.
Professional includes SMS credit equal to the subscription price, rather than unlimited SMS. Destination rates and additional traffic affect cost. Moosend+ prices transactional email, dedicated IPs, SSO and other selected extras by quotation. Neither headline establishes your tax-inclusive invoice, implementation bill or migration cost: request these separately and confirm renewal, currency and applicable taxes before paying. Sender Professional · Moosend+ add-ons.
Moosend counts an active email address once across lists. Its credit alternative charges one credit per email recipient. Crucially, its billing documentation says a campaign exceeding the subscription's contact allowance can consume credits for the whole campaign, not only the excess recipients. Ask how your intended send will be charged before combining a subscription and credits. Subscription and credit rules.

Where each is stronger
Sender: keep a small publishing workflow running without a subscription
Our assessment is that continuing free access is Sender's strongest distinction. A welcome sequence, a newsletter and segmentation can remain useful without requiring the publisher to commit to a paid plan immediately. The compromises are visible branding, one user and capacity limits. Decide whether those actually obstruct the work before paying to remove them. Free plan · email automation.
Moosend: evaluate the campaign workflow in more depth
Moosend's automation recipes cover onboarding, abandoned carts and post-purchase messages. Its A/B tools let teams vary subjects, content or sender details and define the winning criterion. Our assessment: this is useful when a marketing team has a concrete campaign calendar and wants repeatable experiments. It does not establish higher deliverability or revenue than Sender; those outcomes need evidence from your own audience. Automation recipes · A/B testing controls.
For either platform, demonstrate the complete sequence: subscription, confirmation, welcome email, store event, suppression after purchase and unsubscribe. With integrations, distinguish a native store connector from a Zapier connection that may introduce another subscription and a different sync delay. Moosend's directory explicitly mixes both types. Four realistic buying scenarios
- Solo UK newsletter, 1,200 subscribers and four issues monthly: that is 4,800 campaign emails before automations. Sender Free fits that hypothetical workload if branding and one login are acceptable. Count welcome and follow-up messages in the same monthly budget.
- Three-person US retailer with 500 subscribers and frequent promotions: compare the actual send calendar. More than 6,000 monthly emails exceeds Sender's smallest Standard allowance; Moosend Pro's send model may be a better fit. Do not assume sending more often is itself a better strategy.
- Small European store coordinating email and SMS: shortlist Sender Professional, then price the destination mix and demonstrate consent, suppression and purchase triggers. An included credit balance does not prove that the whole monthly SMS workload is covered.
- Five-person seasonal marketing team: compare Moosend's subscription against its non-expiring credit option. Include all recipients and all campaign sends in the estimate; confirm team access and automation behavior under the chosen arrangement before migrating.
These are hypothetical planning examples, not customer results. Allowance sources: Sender tiers and Moosend subscriptions and credits.
Alternatives
- ActiveCampaign: investigate when marketing automation must connect closely with a broader sales workflow.
- HighLevel: investigate when agency operations and multiple client workflows matter more than a standalone newsletter system.
These are different shortlisting directions, not claims of lower prices or universal superiority.
Buyer questions
Which has a permanent free plan?
Sender does. Moosend offers a 30-day, no-card trial for up to 1,000 contacts. Its trial matrix limits published automation and leaves the trial form and landing page unpublished, so do not plan a production launch around unrestricted trial publishing. Sender Free · Moosend trial conditions.
Is Moosend's unlimited email promise unlimited audience size?
No. The subscription still has a contact tier. Duplicate addresses across lists count once, but a larger active audience needs the applicable plan or credit arrangement. Moosend billing rules.
Can I use the same tool for receipts and campaigns?
Potentially, but specify both workloads. Sender documents transactional SMTP/API support. Moosend sells a distinct transactional-email capability; do not interpret an SMTP checkmark as proof of that entitlement. Confirm delivery-event handling, quotas and the purchased feature before moving receipts. Sender transactional email · Moosend transactional email · Moosend add-on placement.
Should I pay annually immediately?
Only after validating audience import, your required automation and the invoice. A discount is less valuable if the chosen contact tier or add-on package cannot support the workflow. Save the checkout's term, renewal amount and cancellation conditions before committing.
Which is better for an online store?
Choose by the events your store can actually share. Demonstrate cart creation, completed purchase and customer opt-out in the exact connector you would use. Sender's channel mix may matter more for SMS-heavy work; Moosend's email recipes may matter more for campaign experimentation. Neither integration listing guarantees your custom checkout is supported.
