Evaluate ecommerce fulfilment beyond a shipping price
Compare a representative basket of orders, operational exceptions and the cost of moving your stock.
Build a sample of ordinary, peak-season and difficult orders before requesting a quote. Include product dimensions, weight, destinations, order frequency, packaging and return patterns. Keep forecasts separate from actual order history so a proposal does not depend on invented volume.
Describe the operation
- Product handling, storage needs, stock accuracy and receiving checks.
- Sales channels, inventory updates and cancelled-order handling.
- Dispatch expectations, tracking, returns and damaged-item escalation.
- Service ownership and access to usable inventory and order exports.
ShipBob’s official overview describes inventory distribution, order fulfilment and warehouse-management services. Read the ShipBob profile, then confirm which services and locations would appear in your own agreement. Advertised network coverage does not establish a particular route’s delivery commitment.
Compare the same basket
Ask each provider to price identical sample orders and explain receiving, storage, pick-and-pack, packaging, shipping, returns and special handling. Include minimum commitments, peak surcharges, long-term storage, insurance arrangements and stock-removal costs. Clarify who resolves a lost parcel and what evidence a claim requires.
Rehearse the transition
Test product mappings, an order change, partial stock, a return and a failed integration. Agree inventory counts at handover, reconciliation frequency, escalation contacts and how you would retrieve stock if the relationship ends. A software connection alone is not proof that warehouse operations are ready.
Review demand assumptions separately from fulfilment capacity. The MarketerHire profile is related marketing-services research, not an alternative warehouse service or a sales forecast. Avoid committing to capacity on the assumption that a new marketing arrangement guarantees demand.
Use the finance-software guide to connect the operating proposal to a documented cash and inventory scenario. Confirm cross-border and product-specific obligations with appropriate advisers.
